Week 2 Assignment #3 Understanding by Design

My understanding of Backwards Design is that you start with the desired results, working towards the activities. Backwards Design consists of three key phrases or steps:

1- Identify
The lessons desired results need to be identified as well as determine what type of content you will be teaching. You need consider what the big picture or idea of the lesson is? What will the students understand and take away from the lesson?

2-Evidence
Have evidence to support that the desired results have been achieved. You need to consider how you will collect the evidence, or evaluate the students knowledge of the subject matter. The following can be used: tests, projects, papers, reports, presentations, etc.

3- Planning
Now that you have identified your desired goals and have evidence to support the results, planning can begin. Various activities should be planned in order to ensure the students will achieve the desired results. What type of questions will be asked, what exercises will be preformed, and how will the students apply what they have learned in everyday settings?
